The Melaka Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was started by Mr. John Tan in the year 1992. It is only registered animal shelter organization in Melaka which was started by Tan with the major objective of promoting active kindness to all animals great and small.

SPCA Melaka is non-profit organization maintained by devoted members who are wholeheartedly keen on furthering the course of promoting active kindness to all animals.

The current premises (centre) at Lorong Kapten Nekmat in Semabok has earmarked for development subsequently, it will be have to be relocated to another location soon.

Currently it houses more than 200 animals including dogs, cats, chicken and ducks at its centre in Semabok.
